“Cleaning better” is a mantra around Ver-tech Labs. The development of Move Your Asphalt began with taking a look at how tar and asphalt was removed from trucks and heavy equipment. The process seemed time consuming, labor intensive and wasted a lot of chemical. Typical orange solvent cleaners worked relatively well on a horizontal surface but quickly ran off vertical and curved surfaces. We formulated a variety of solutions and created a number of effective heavy duty cleaners, including Clean Safe which quickly and easily removes tar and asphalt from trucks. But what we really wanted to do was to create a product that could tackle the thickest asphalt and tar buildup found on vehicles and equipment used in the pavement industry.

Move Your Asphalt is formulated to be thick and clings to vertical and curved surfaces. Basic directions for use are apply, wait and high pressure rinse.  Cleaning efficacy can be improved with longer dwell times, some agitation and repetition of the basic procedure. We tested out Move Your Asphalt at our local Wright County vehicle maintenance center one morning in December. Tony Vertin, CEO and Jon Bowe, sales were given access to a piece of equipment with four month old asphalt crusted on it. Move Your Asphalt was applied with a brush and allowed a 12 minute dwell time. The first high pressure rinse resulted in the removal of 95% of the asphalt. Not wanting to leave a cleaning project undone, Jone Bowe applied Move Your Asphalt a second time, waited 90 seconds and rinsed. Totally clean. We were told that the area we cleaned would have taken over an hour to clean and would have required scrubbing and scraping.

Seeing the great results on four month old asphalt reminded us about “the beast”. “The Beast” is an asphalt spreader bar that was brought into the plant almost three years ago. We have tested various products and nothing really made a significant dent in the thick buildup. Chemist Jami Sloan applied Move Your Asphalt and rinsed after 14 minutes of dwell time. The result was a noticeable improvement in layers removed with some spots of original metal showing. Move Your Asphalt was applied a second time to some thicker buildup areas and allowed to work for 20 minutes. High pressure rinse revealed lots of original metal surface showing.
